The Department of Pharmacognosy and Nutriciology was established by reorganizing the Department of Pharmacognosy on April 7, 2004, and on September 1, 2019 the Department of Chemistry of Natural Compounds and the Department of Nutrition and Pharmaceutical Bromatology merged to create the Department of Chemistry of Natural Compounds and Nutriciology.
Since 2004, the department is headed by Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Victoria Kyslychenko – Academician of the NGO “National Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine”, Honored Worker of Science and Technology, Honored Professor of NUPh.

Today, the teaching staff of the department consists of 24 employees (7 doctors of sciences, professors; 1 doctor of sciences, associate professor; 11 candidates of sciences, associate professors; 5 candidates of sciences, assistants). All employees of the department work fruitfully to provide higher education students with quality and interesting materials of lectures, seminars and practical classes.

The Department of Chemistry of Natural Compounds and Nutriciology teaches 14 disciplines in the educational programs “Pharmacy”, “Clinical Pharmacy”, “Technology of perfumes and cosmetics”, “Technology of pharmaceuticals”, 3 forms of education (full-time, part-time, evening) for national and foreign students studying in Ukrainian and English.

The staff of the department takes an active part in providing the educational process with educational and methodical literature in Ukrainian, as well as Russian and English (for foreign students) languages. During the existence of the department 3 national textbooks “Pharmacognosy” were developed and published (in Ukrainian, Russian and English). The Russian edition in 2018 and the English edition in 2019 were awarded the Best Edition of the Year award according to the version of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine of Higher Education. In addition, more than 14 textbooks were published, as well as numerous guidelines, workshops for laboratory work and independent work of higher education students. Developed and published a unique teaching aid for teachers “Methods of preparation and conduct of laboratory classes on pharmacognosy”.
The Department of Pharmacognosy and Nutriciology is a reference in the disciplines: “Pharmacognosy with the basics of phytocosmetics” for students majoring in “Technology of perfumes and cosmetics”, “Pharmacognostic basics of phytotherapy” for students majoring in “Clinical Pharmacy”.
Scientific work is actively carried out at the department. Employees of the department took part in the development of 76 drugs of different pharmacological action.
Throughout its existence, the Department of Chemistry of Natural Compounds and Nutriciology has prepared 15 doctors and more than 60 candidates of science, 1 doctoral and 15 candidate (doctor of philosophy) dissertations are being performed.
The department has a student scientific society (SSS), where students have the opportunity to conduct their own scientific and practical research, to improve their theoretical knowledge in practice. Participation in SSS serves as an experimental base for students to prepare qualification works, helps in the development of personal flexible skills (soft skills) and gives the experience of public speaking at conferences. Working at SSS was the first step on the path of research for many prominent figures in the history of the National University of Pharmacy.
Scientific achievements and achievements are annually published in leading professional publications and presented at conferences of national and international level.
The Department of Pharmacognosy and Nutriciology takes an active part in educational and career guidance activities, participating in field trips for young people, as well as gladly invites visitors of all ages.
